I have a 10 year old Bassett that goes out in a fenced yard. Last fall, he started digging up a part of the lawn near the back fence. He had never dug anything up till then. He doesn't have anything to bury out there. What can I do to make him stop or put in the area he dug up to keep him from doing it more? Thanks. Pat

Hi Pad, welcome to the forum.

Last summer, our past Basset did the same, digging in the same spot everyday!
We covered the spot with wire mesh/ chicken wire. It stopped her digging but we didn't dare to move it (when she was alive)

My Boston just started doing this which got Rossi doing it as well. My back yard is mostly dirt anyway, but I worry that the Boston (since he's so small) will dig a hole and escape under the fence. They make an outdoor training spray to discourage them from digging. It is kind of a waxy liquid that you spray in the area that you don't want them to dig in. It lasts 24 hours so it has to be resprayed daily until they stop digging. It seems to be working for me so far.

You should cover it, like bassetsandbeyond said, with wire mesh or chicken wire, my friend has had the same problem before and it worked.

Hi

I have a 1 year old bassett hound named Duke who wont stop digging up the flower beds and eating all my plants. I've tried everything from sprays to placing him in a run when I'm not there.

Does anyone have any suggestions of what else i can try??
